About My Clients
We might be a good fit if you are in need of a safe, nonjudgmental place to heal from painful life experiences. I tend to work best with clients who view therapy as an active and collaborative process. I consider us to be a team - you are the expert on yourself (your values, where you find meaning, your culture), and I bring expertise in mental health and wellness.
My Background and Approach
I earned my PhD in clinical psychology from Kent State University in 2010. In my early career, I led grant-funded research with Veterans Affairs on approaches to help people cope with and resist the impact of mental health stigma, as well as research on trauma-focused therapies. My years as a therapist have been spent in providing research-informed approaches for healing from anxiety, depression, and trauma-related problems. My clinical experiences, combined with my background in research, have shaped me into a therapist with a strong dual emphasis on honoring the uniqueness of each individual and using therapeutic approaches with proven effectiveness. I primarily use a cognitive-behavioral approach, helping my clients to recognize the connections among their thoughts, emotions, and actions, to find a new path forward. I love to assist my clients in exploring their strengths and values, so that we can together find ways for them to get unstuck and to live satisfying, meaningful lives.
