About My Clients

I strive to provide a collaborative, healing space for clients who have shared that they have been misunderstood, oppressed, or let down by important people in their lives. You deserve to have support, and to have someone who will listen to you, respect your autonomy, and prioritize your needs. I have helped many motivated individuals and couples improve their vulnerability in communication, reduce their experience of anxiety and depression, and work towards more open sexual expression.

My Background and Approach

I firmly believe in the tenets of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). To quote Carl Rogers, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." No one is a "perfect" human being, and when we are able to accept our vulnerability and growth edges, we are far more likely to be able to see our personal value and prioritize our well being. I have also been trained in Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Feminist theory underlies my work; this means that I will be open and overt about my role in service to you, and that I acknowledge there is an inherent power differential in our work. That being said, my role is to minimize that differential and to honor your autonomy, and to ensure that you feel empowered to guide the course of therapy based on your own goals and needs. You are, without a doubt, the expert in your own life, and my aim is to provide tools to empower you.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

There is no doubt that systemic oppression in the forms of sexism and racism has a significant impact on mental health. People in the LGBTIQA2S+, BIPOC, and AAPI communities are particularly at risk right now, and my role is to continue to educate myself to best support and provide services to vulnerable members of our communities. It is not my place to ask a person who experiences injustice and oppression to educate me. That being said, I want to hear more about your identity and how you navigate the world; even two people from the same racial, economic, and cultural background may have vastly different life experiences. I believe that every client holds the key to their own healing, and my role is that of a guide to assist in that process. The same way we learned behaviors in the past that have helped us survive trauma, we can also learn new behaviors and processes to help us thrive. This is not easy work, but it is absolutely possible.
