Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy has been shown to have long lasting benefits for couples. I have competed 3 years of training and supervision in this finely tuned therapy. In this work we get to to the core beliefs and the underlying primary emotions that, when recognized, help to bring the couple closer together. I have also trained in Gottman and Imago couples therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy seems to have the best outcomes.
When I saw what EMDR could do, I spent 5 years in school and training to become a therapist so I could do EMDR. I am certified, a consultant, county coordinator, and facilitator- in -training for EMDR. I use EMDR to treat anxiety, depression, emotional trauma, and performance anxiety. I have used it with active military people, victims of assault and abuse, and with professional speakers and musicians. This very robust model cuts to the core of an issue fast.
I have trained in specialized couples counseling including Imago, Gottman, EFT, and have developed some of my own specialized communication guidelines to help couples learn how to speak to each other and how to get close to each other again, even if they feel very far away from each other.
Science shows us that the past is always with us and I examine past events in a way that helps clear up old beliefs and recurrent negative thoughts. What the medical model ignores is that talk therapy can affect the chemicals in the brain and that the so called chemical imbalances can be rebalanced with targeted talk therapy. I consider everything that we talk about to have a neutral charge. There is no right and wrong when it comes to examining the past. People have told me I'm non judgmental.
Anxiety symptoms can be very crippling. Having worked in a hospital, I have a very large tool box that I use to manage symptoms of anxiety. One day I listed 240 techniques to manage anxiety. I study and take classes on anxiety and believe I have some very targeted methods, the best that I can find to manage anxiety. Will I be able to help you? I have helped others.
"Feelings, not fact" is my approach to relationships. It doesn't matter how "big" the issue is when each person is able to see the deep underlying feelings behind behaviors and beliefs they have about each other. I also have tools for cutting through communication blocks. I have trained extensively in couples therapy. I do my best to be a neutral observer and to treat each person with respect. BTW, we do couples work without shouting.
You are OK no matter what, especially in the area of sex. Sex produces great pleasure but also great vulnerability. I became a sex therapist when I realized that all of my couples have some area of sexual functioning that is not producing the utmost happiness. I have trained with the finest AASECT certified trainers . I have been told that I am approachable, non-judgmental, and accepting of all. I welcome all genders orientations and sexual expressions.
