I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing which is a method of working with trauma. I also have training in trauma theories and the Polyvagal Theory which is based on neuroscience. I have learned that in order to work with trauma effectively, we must feel connected through building a safe relationship and then we have to work with the brain and body. Thinking and talking alone don't heal trauma without being able to feel it in the body as well.

I have been trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which is an off-shoot of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. In the DBT manual, there are many skills to learn and options to choose from for solving much of the problems we face in life. I also believe that by providing Person-Centered talk therapy, your inner wisdom can come forth and help you gain insight into the life issues you are facing.

I have specific training in anxiety and different ways to approach it. Much of the training I have done for trauma healing also applies to working with anxiety. Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing all can be helpful for working with anxiety.

Person-Centered therapy is my main approach especially when first getting to know one another. Carl Rogers created this type of therapy and it is simple yet elegant. It is about listening with unconditional positive regard (i.e. care and respect) to the client. Through this model, we can build a safe, connected relationship that allows you to discover the your truth within.

I have been trained in EMDR which includes a number of hours of classwork and clinical practice. Now I am working with a consultation group to continue learning and growing in this practice.

I took a specialized training in DBT to learn how to be a DBT facilitator. I have since run several DBT groups and have developed some of my own materials and lessons to use with individuals who want to gain the benefits of learning and practicing DBT skills.
