About My Clients

I work with adults, children, adolescents, & families who are suffering with mood/emotional disorders &/or family dynamic issues. Symptoms associated with these disorders often have significant effects on interpersonal relationships. Therefore, improving relational issues is important for successful outcomes. While specializing in Mood Disorders, I also treat Behavioral & Personality Disorders. Additionally, I see clients suffering with Adjustment &/or Trauma-related Disorders.

My Background and Approach

As a graduate from The University of Notre Dame's Clinical Psychology program, I continue an adherence in my practice to the scientist-practitioner model under which I was trained. As my client, I strive to provide you with evidence-based and empirically supported treatments that have a proven record of efficacy & effectiveness in both laboratory & clinical research settings respectively. My clients receive unique & individualized treatment plans that are personally tailored to meet your specific needs. I dedicate my practice to providing therapeutic treatments that have been established by strong foundations in psychological theory & established & proven through scientific research. While an eclectic approach is adhered to in my practice, a heavy focus on Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) is employed when designing individualized treatment plans. CBT is one of a few forms of psychotherapy that has been scientifically tested & found to be effective in hundreds of clinical trials.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

CBT is based on the cognitive model: the way we perceive, interpret, process, &/or feel we understand & experience situations (i.e., our thoughts) influences how we feel emotionally. How we feel emotionally (i.e., moods) subsequently influences our behaviors. Cognitive behavioral therapists use a different formulation for each disorder or mental health-related issue. This issue-based, adaptable formulation conceptualizes the individual patient, whom is an essential component to developing a strong therapeutic relationship, setting goals, planning treatment, & selecting interventions. Building trust & rapport with patients from the moment of initial contact, demonstrating accurate empathy, sharing the conceptualization with the client (making sure it “rings true” for the client), & collaborating are also essential. Clients will ultimately learn skills involved in identifying distorted thinking, modifying beliefs, relating to others in different ways, & changing behaviors.
