About My Clients

As a helper or healer, you pour yourself out to others in your work (and most likely at home as well). You got into this work because you have a vision for a better world, but the daily reality of taking on the cares of others leaves you feeling numb and detached or constantly on alert and unable to relax. Call it compassion fatigue or burnout - the bottom line is that it sucks the creativity, compassion and joy right out of you. A more balanced life IS possible, and I can help.

My Background and Approach

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Louisiana. I’ve led frontline teams in nonprofit education and youth development for over ten years and have experienced firsthand the numbness, rage, desperation, escape fantasies, and exhaustion that are so common among helpers. I believe that helpers are human, with the same drive to feel safe, connected, and gratified. I have developed an expertise in helping people from diverse backgrounds clarify their values and move in the direction of their goals with increased balance and gratification. I am continually learning and trying on new tools for my own growth and for use in my practice. I integrate a variety of methods in sessions, including self-compassion, values clarification, communication techniques, mindful awareness, nervous system regulation, polyvagal theory and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Sessions are unique to individual clients' preferences and needs.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a human and as a therapist based in the US, I am hopeful about our collective capacity to heal from centuries of violent white supremacy, patriarchy and heteronormativity. I am committed to ongoing inquiry and feedback about how to use my privilege in a way that supports (and at the very least does not distract from) this healing process. I believe that transformative healing happens from the inside out. We have to heal ourselves while we work to help others heal. Self-neglect is not the same thing as selflessness and is a guaranteed path to burnout. This is why helping helpers is so important to me. I believe in your power to heal yourself and to continue creating the world you imagine. I'm here to back you up and to hold a space for you to sift through everything that comes up along the way.
