About My Clients
You are frustrated, overwhelmed, and at a loss as to how to deal with your child. You are getting parent contact notes from your child's teacher regarding difficult behavior. The school counselor and principal have requested a sit-down meeting to discuss strategies on how to help. It seems like an endless spiral. It will be okay. I am here to engage your child a different way. I am here to provide support and give you the tools you need to add to your parenting repertoire.
My Background and Approach
I have worked with children, pre-teens, teens, and adults in a private practice and a community health agency. Specifically, I worked with individuals who have trouble with stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. For younger clients, I use therapeutic play interventions and art interventions so that they are able to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a different way. Presently, I work under Brenda Lopez, LPC-S, RPT-S as I pursue a credential called Registered Play Therapy (RPT). This credential is important to me as I seek to use play therapy interventions with young children who aren’t able to communicate as adults do. Play therapy interventions are used because it is research based and developmentally appropriate. Children are best understood in their own world, which is through the use of toys. While my focus is with children, I work with all individuals from all backgrounds who are ready to work on change. Let's get started.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that doing the same thing to find a different result leads to frustration. I seek to challenge and change norms especially if they are harmful. I hope to inspire to do different. I believe in affordable healthcare for all, the principles of social justice, and advocating for those who go against the grain of how society tells how you should be. You are uniquely you and no one can change that.
