About My Clients

Are you uncertain about your identity, your values, or how to manage your thoughts and feelings? I personally have had to work toward lasting and meaningful change in my own life. Clients working with me can expect me to help them explore their inner and outer struggles, define what change can look like, and move forward in their lives. We all want to make sense out of our experiences with others and live with meaning or purpose in our actions. I am here to help you along that journey.

My Background and Approach

I graduated from California Lutheran University with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology and have been formally trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions. I have worked with children (age 12 and up), adults, and couples from diverse background and with a variety of gender, sexual, and racial identities. I've also done extensive work with athletes from all levels of competition. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, meaning I first seek to know who you are as a person to direct my understanding of what problem(s) you are facing. This includes your values, worldview, identities, and personal beliefs that form who you are and what you truly care about in your life. I then use several different ways of facilitating healing and growth, including techniques from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and sport and performance psychology.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that growth never stops and can look vastly different for many people. Personally I have a loving relationship with a higher power that guides my decisions each day. I also employ the use of mindful meditation, journaling, exercising, and speaking to my loved ones daily to maintain a sense of balance and connectedness. This is especially important for me because I believe I live in a culture that promotes individual success, disconnection, addiction, and a lack of attention to issues related to diversity and inclusivity. I am a White-identified, cisgendered, heterosexual man; these identities now give me the opportunity to shed my privilege and use it to help empower those that have been historically disenfranchised or feel they lack a sense of power, control, or safety. This work is challenging and very rewarding for me, and it's something I am still learning how to do and will continue to learn because, as I mentioned, growth never stops.
