About My Clients
Many of us walk around thinking that we should be happier, that we're missing an inner sense of vitality. Therapy can be a place to better understand the story of your life and think about how it might be different. My role is to help you clarify your inner sources of conflict in the hopes of living a better, more fulfilling life. I have worked with a wide variety of clients across my careers, and I have found that we are all more human than not.
My Background and Approach
I have completed a fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy through the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis (CCP) and now train graduate students and early career professionals through the University of Chicago and CCP. My work as an educator is of vital importance to me and keeps me active within the field. I have additional training in DBT and mindfulness-based approaches and integrate them into my practice as needed. What is most beneficial is what works, no matter what school or tradition it is associated with.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
It is important for me to be an advocate for my patients and their concerns beyond the consulting room. To that end, I have written on issues such as inequality in access to mental health care, the impact of developmental trauma, and the ways bias shapes our ideas of what constitutes mental health for outlets such as Slate and Psychology Today, and have written two books: This City is Killing Me: Community Trauma and Toxic Stress in Urban America and (Mis)Diagnosed: How Bias Informs Our Perception of Mental Health.
