Bedtime is more of a nightmare than a time of peace. Racing thoughts invade your mind continously. Fear stops you from completing any goals you make. This starts a vicious cycle of anxiety and depression. It feels hopeless. With the right tools and hard work, anxiety can decrease and sleep is possible.
Teens face many issues. Some are similar to adults like anxiety and depression. Mostly, teens need someone to talk to besides their parents because the "rents don't get it". Teens can be resistant to therapy. "I don't need help. I'm fine!" I love to help these teens. They have no idea how much fun they really will have because I'm not like most adults. I'm a big kid that loves super heroes (Batman).
Bed feels like the only place that is safe. There isn't motivation to move out of it, there are but not motivation enough. "I have so much to do but I just can't get out of bed." It hurts to feel like a failure, a non engaging parent, or a spouse that can't provide his/her for the family. With hard the right tools and hard work, you can get out of the dark cloud.
This is similar to DBT and the most common therapy learned. I have been exposed and utilized this type for many years.
I have done many groups using this method for several years. I see the beautiful results of this type of therapy.
