About My Clients

Do you constantly feel like you’re slightly out of sync with most people? Maybe you frequently take things too literally. Maybe you constantly make movie reference quotes, but no one ever knows what you’re talking about. You shut down when you’re overwhelmed and you’ve been told that means you have depression—but you aren’t quite sure that’s right. One minute you’re in control of your emotions, and the next minute you’re lashing out at others. Let's figure out the best path forward together.

My Background and Approach

I go to anime, comic, and game conventions, so I know what it’s like to be extremely excited about them. I also know what it’s like to be completely exhausted at the end of the day at a convention: feeling anxious, irritated, and overwhelmed by the many people packed into the convention center and wondering why I feel that way. In grad school my training focused on dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for adults, which teaches people skills and practices to help reduce symptoms. More recently, I have come to understand why I leaned toward such a structured system—most autistic people love structure and routine—and I have also realized that DBT is not for everyone. I have completed ongoing trainings on a variety of topics, including geek therapy, grief, and trauma, and in 2020 I became certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have been part of the nerd/geek culture since I first learned to read, growing up on staples such as Batman: the animated series and devouring any horror, sci-fi, or fantasy book I could get my hands on. I roll the dice, fling spells, and try desperately to get creamy blends. I have stood on both sides of the GM screen. I am firmly against ABA and Autism Speaks: An autistic person is not a broken neurotypical person.
