About My Clients
Life presents us with many challenges and my aim is to help my clients live a meaningful life even when difficulties or pain are present. I use what matters to my clients as a guide towards making changes in their lives. My style is interactive and collaborative. I offer specific strategies and tools to cope with difficult feelings, unhelpful thoughts, challenging relationships, and life transitions. My goal is to empower my clients to take steps towards their goals.
My Background and Approach
As a licensed clinical psychologist, I have extensive training and experience working with adolescents and adults using behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches to help promote change and growth. I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. I have worked in a variety of settings that include private practice, crisis facilities, primary care, county jails, and a juvenile detention facility. My dissertation examined the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on reducing problematic anger in incarcerated men, and I presented my findings at the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) World Conference. I have conducted comprehensive psychological assessments with children, adolescents, and adults, including court-ordered evaluations to assist in dispositions for care and competency evaluations.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My colleague and I started a private practice together called HeartWork Psychology because we believe the power of our work comes from the heart. Our mission is to promote well-being through compassionate and evidence-based therapy and assessment. I strive to create a collaborative space that is respectful, warm, compassionate, and welcoming to all. I maintain membership in multiple professional groups, including the California Psychological Association (CPA) and the Alameda County Psychological Association (ACPA). I regularly engage in continuing education to stay up-to-date and participate in my own regular meditation group.
