About My Clients
The teenage years can be a very confusing and difficult time. Between dealing with the struggles of social and academic pressures and having to choose a path after high school, this time in the life of a teenager can be almost unbearable. They often feel overwhelmed, unheard, and alone. Teens might be angry or irritable and lash out regularly. Sometimes they become anxious and depressed and are unable to regulate their emotions. It can be a challenging time for parents as well. I can help.
My Background and Approach
I have 10+ years working with teens in a supportive, caring and validating environment. I provide a safe space for teens to say what they want and be who they are – no judgment, no criticism and no repercussions. Raising a happy, healthy teenager sometimes requires a team of caring individuals so I encourage parental involvement while maintaining confidentiality. I understand the importance of communication within the family, so I facilitate sessions to allow family members to communicate more effectively.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am passionate about helping young people feel supported and validated. I grew up under the assumption that "kids should be seen and not heard" and realized how difficult this could be for a young person struggling with anxiety, depression or gender identity issues. In my work, I have learned that providing a space for young people to be themselves is empowering. I enjoy working with teens from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQ youth and helping families understand how culture impacts teen social and emotional development.
