People from all backgrounds and walks of life can develop addictive behaviors, and there is no shame in seeking help. I consider it a crucial part of my job to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for clients to work through their struggles. I utilize a non-12 step approach focused primarily on harm reduction. The end goal depends on what the client wants and can include complete abstinence or controlled moderation.
Anxiety disorders can severely impact someone’s ability to perform daily tasks or stay connected to the present. Engaging in activities remotely related to the trigger can cause debilitating symptoms that threaten to take over their thought processes and inhibit rational thinking or behavior. I help my clients learn to recognize when anxiety is influencing their thoughts and how to use tools such as mindfulness to realize that everything is okay and manageable in the present moment.
Through talk therapy, clients gain an understanding of their symptoms and emotions. Depression is often fueled by underlying pain, and searching beneath the surface to find the source of that pain is the key to moving past it. I also provide clients with tools and skills for alleviating depressive symptoms to help them stabilize and obtain control while we work through related issues.
I embrace a holistic approach where I utilize strategies and information from various schools of thought to provide clients with a highly tailored experience where everything comes together.
I do not start with a formulaic plan. have a natural tendency to create a safe space for others, where they have room to explore themselves without feeling pressured or judged. I allow my clients to control the direction of their treatment. I believe that the client knows themselves best, and my role is to supply them with support and clinical tools that help them discover practical solutions to actualize the life they want to live.
It is important to me to honor my clients who come from different cultures and help them to feel valued rather than alienated. Having the ability to communicate is an integral component of how people connect to others. As someone who grew up in alternate cultural environments, I understand how to bridge the gap between familiar and unfamiliar territory.
