I'm here to help you overcome stigma in seeking help so that you can live the life you want.
Clinical Social Worker in Texas
I have been utilizing CBT throughout my 20-year career to help people identify and challenge their cognitive distortions negatively impacting their day to day interactions, decisions, and self-esteem. Once people have the skill to identify and challenge their automatic thoughts, they can often do this independently and feel a sense of relief.
I have been trained in both Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure, through the VA and DoD. I was selected as a national training consultant for Prolonged Exposure in a Primary Care setting while still with the VA.
I was trained through the Veteran's Administration to utilize Motivational Interviewing in every session. Assisting people to identify their barriers and to develop an action plan to achieve their goals can help with every clinical intervention.
Irritability and anger is often triggered by anxiety, relationship difficulties, job stress, feeling unappreciated/disrespected, and/or insomnia. Identifying the underlying cause of your anger is the first step in understanding and managing your anger. I help to treat anger at its root cause, by challenging the cognitive distortions associated with your anger.
Anxiety is a sense of feeling powerless and out of control - your body may even feel like it's working against you through insomnia, muscle tension, and/or panic attacks. By providing information on what happens to your mind/body during increased anxiety, we can develop an action plan to identify triggers, manage anxiety, and reduce overall levels of anxiety.
If you find that you struggle to be understood or communicate effectively, I can help teach you skills to overcome this. Oftentimes, stress leads couples to "shutting down" emotionally in an effort to protect their partner, but this leads to living parallel lives. And once communication has stopped, couples begin reacting to misperceptions leading to further arguments and miscommunication.
