About My Clients
Do you want to feel safe and secure in your relationships? Do you fight with feelings of low-self worth or negative beliefs about yourself? My clients tend to have a history of complex trauma or developmental trauma that impacts both their relationships with others and their relationship with themselves. I work with uncovering the underlying issues contributing towards present day suffering such as relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and identity development.
My Background and Approach
My approach to counseling starts with a belief that healing happens within a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental relationship. Also, as a therapist I do not take the role of "expert", but rather my goal is to help clients discover their own inherent wisdom. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Somatic (body-centered) Counseling from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. My training includes both body psychotherapy and dance/movement therapy (DMT) and I am a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT). I am also trained in EMDR, DBT facilitation, client-centered therapy, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and social justice counseling. As a practiced meditator, I weave mindfulness throughout my work with clients. Prior to career as a therapist, I was a performer, dancer, and yoga instructor.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
From a somatic perspective, I believe the body and the mind are intimately linked and I take trauma into consideration when I incorporate body awareness. I respect your past experiences, your body, and honor the pace at which you heal best. I also believe that systems play an important role in our experience and should be taken into account when treating mental health; these systems can include culture, institutions, community, family, intimate relationships and more. I am a continually learning anti-racist and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. As a therapist, I hope to fight systemic oppression by helping clients of all socio-multicultural locations recognize the impact power and privilege has on their internal and external experiences. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex positive, and I recognize the complexities of sexuality and identity.
