My Background and Approach
I have specialized training in EMDR, which was designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories; Talk therapy, which helps identify thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions that make life harder; Body-centered psychotherapy which can help relieve the negative effects of trauma and emotional pain. This integrative approach to treatment honors the belief that our physical and emotional worlds are deeply connected. I help clients with evidence-based resources they can access while out in the world, living their lives. We'll slow down moments of challenge to create self-awareness and care to lower the voice of the critic making room for compassion to come online. My clients often comment on how useful the skills are in helping them deal with day-to-day challenges and stress, as well as developing self-confidence. Therapy helps to balance reflection, action, and acceptance.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My perspective is feminist, culturally sensitive, and grounded in principles of social justice. I believe it's important to understand the whole person and the impact of culture on our mental and emotional well-being. I seek to understand clients’ values, and lived experiences from a position of cultural humility. I support clients in exploring their spirituality, sexual and gender identity, racial/ethnic identity, intergenerational conflict, and look at what holds meaning and gives purpose to their lives. I value working with people from various religious backgrounds, nationalities, sexual orientations, and ethnic and cultural identities. How can I support you?
