About My Clients
Has your child recently come out as queer or trans? Are you struggling with how to support them but also dealing with this change? I can provide support as you navigate how to be a supportive parent and hold space for you as you process your feelings around the transition. Are you queer or trans and you want a therapist who may not be trans but won’t be constantly forgetting your pronouns? I can help you be fully seen while also processing your trauma or anxiety.
My Background and Approach
While I have a background in using CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), I find myself using a variety of approaches with my clients, including mindfulness and Brainspotting (similar to EMDR). I don't think that any one modality fits all people and so I use multiple techniques to provide the best care for my clients. My goal is to help you feel confident in your ability to face the world, and I will provide you with the tools you need to do that. I have experience working from a trauma perspective and can help you identify how your past is shaping your present and what you need to do to change your future. I am trained in writing letters for gender affirming surgeries and can help connect you to resources to navigate that process.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Our lives do not exist in a vacuum. What is happening in the world impacts you everyday and it is often hard to separate the personal from the events of the world. I value being aware of the social justice movements that are happening, I value being on top of political events as they happen, and I value your ability to talk safely in our sessions about how those events are playing out in your life. I will always say that Black Lives Matter and that Trans Lives Matter. If you struggle with those statements, but are willing to explore your struggles, I am here to listen and support.
