About My Clients

Do you find yourself quick to anger or panic, sometimes with seemingly no reason? Are you telling yourself you’re not good enough or judging yourself for not dealing with stress more effectively? Are you processing a traumatic experience, or grieving a loss? Art therapy provides a non-verbal outlet for big emotions which can help provide clarity and insight, new perspectives, and a better understanding of different ways to cope.

My Background and Approach

I use art therapy directives along with dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to help clients understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and how to manage difficult emotions. There are many external factors that are making it more difficult for us to regulate our emotions, calm our anxiety, and allow ourselves to rest. Art therapy can help provide clarity and focus through safe expression of big or difficult emotions and stressful experiences, provide an outlet for stress and anger, and help us learn our patterns and how to make effective changes. I graduated with my Masters in Art Therapy from School of Visual Arts in 2012. Since then, I have worked primarily in residential treatment settings for adolescents struggling with mental health, trauma, difficult family situations, and unsafe coping mechanisms. I opened my private practice earlier this year and work primarily with adolescents and young adults.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that every person has a story to tell that is deserving of being heard. I became a therapist because I struggled in my identity as a teenager, which led to increased anxiety and poor coping strategies. Due to my struggles, I was sent to my own therapist, which was unheard of in my family. My therapist was a patient, kind, and nonjudgmental person who suggested to me that I might be interested in helping others in therapy one day. How right he was! Now, I am 8 years in practice, and I am so thankful that I am able to share strategies with others. Art helped me heal, and I know it can help you find your way as well! I am an active member of the LGBT community and I participate in community actions that support Black Lives Matter.
