About My Clients
I specialize in working with folks who are struggling with anxiety, depression, or substance use disorders. I am passionate about working with adolescents, couples, and adults and incorporate a systems perspective with each individual. All of us are affected by relationships and experiences. But we are also affected by the larger systems around us. I want to understand your personal experience within both your family and immediate community as well as the larger community encompassing it.
My Background and Approach
Therapy is a sacred space to express yourself fully and honestly with the assurance of receiving empathy devoid of judgement. Together we’ll identify your strengths, (yes, they’re there!), your personal worldview, and specific strategies that meet your needs. Most often I draw from strengths based approaches and implement interventions from modalities such as mindfulness, emotionally focused therapy, attachment theory, and narrative therapy. I have received special training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Training, and Shame Resilience. I work to continually enrich my competencies with both the LGBTQ+, and multicultural communities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that our country is a milieu of different systems that does not place everyone on an even playing field. Parts of our society are marginalized and not afforded the same protections or opportunities as others. I am passionate about social justice causes that actively seek to change those systems. I am a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and Black Lives Matter. Some of the activists and organizations I follow and contribute to: Shaun King, Outside In (Portland), The Innocence Project, and The Trevor Project. For self care I love to try any and all new foods, nurture my relationships with my family and friends, see plays and movies (especially documentaries!), and play with my goofball of a cat, Lizzie.
