My Background and Approach
Over the years I have trained in and utilized multiple therapeutic frameworks including CBT, ACT, DBT, MI, and Narrative Therapy. Upon the completion of a thorough assessment, I tailor my approach to best meet the needs of the individual. I bring experience from leading and providing mental health and substance use services in HIV/AIDS programs and clinics, sexual assault and domestic violence programs, in mental health and segregated housing units of prisons, with those facing chronic and terminal illness, Veteran programs, and in a clinical gender health program. On the therapeutic relationship: There is healing in connection. In life we can become disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. I believe that in this disconnection pain thrives. My extensive clinical training and experience allow for the integration of technique and heart. Being fully seen by another human where we openly share our suffering, fear, and longing is the alchemy of healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My personal values and beliefs are inextricable from the way I show up professionally. I am very lucky to be part of a profession that places emphasis on social justice and the worth and dignity of every person. Right now minoritized communities are facing threats that have been unprecedented in my lifetime. I share openly that I am a lesbian. My practice name, Rainbow Connections, LLC is intentionally un-sanitized to signal as a safe harbor for those who may find themselves vulnerable in other spheres of their life. I am anti-diet, HAES aligned, and am passionate about fat liberation. I am anti-racist, gender and sexuality affirming, sex positive, and am a fierce ally for those impacted by the abundance of social "-phobias" and "-isms" that work to "other" our fellow human beings. I am pro-choice, anti-gun, and radical in my political beliefs. (citation: S. Jobs)
