I work with those who may feel isolated and alone on their path to personal improvement and peace, to achieve integration and resolution.
Counselor in Beaverton, OR
While I am cisgender, I have worked with the trans community and gender identity since 2007. In graduate school my work focused on the need for better treatment for people who identified as trans. I worked in an inpatient treatment center for LGBTQ individuals with addiction and mental illness. I have worked with many individuals, as young as 14, who come into counseling exploring gender identity. I have written letters using WPATH guidelines for those who are seeking gender-affirming surgery.
I have experience working in an eating disorders program that included partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient treatment. I have completed intake assessments that included a "level of care recommendation" for eating disorder treatment based on diagnoses such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. I also have training in the "Health at Every Size" approach and seek continuing education in how nutrition and eating relate to mental health.
I worked in a high volume medical clinic as a behavioral/counseling specialist on a medical team, and I have completed hundreds of assessments of individuals who have major depressive disorder. I have worked most extensively with depression, since it is one of the most common mental health disorders. I have used many best-practice treatment tools to work on goals related to alleviating depression. I specialize in persistent and recurrent depression, as well as existential depression.
I am trained in many forms of therapy and combine the tools from each that I feel are most appropriate for the symptoms that are present. This may include using strategies of mindfulness, dream work, identifying values-oriented goals, using exposure and response prevention, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, cognitive modification, emotion processing, and motivational interviewing.
I have completed a 50-hour training in the EMDRIA-approved SAFE (somatic and attachment focused EMDR) approach, and have experience treating simple (one event) and complex (multiple-event) trauma with EMDR in individual therapy.
I have completed more than 25 hours of continuing education training in CBT, and I have used CBT most extensively in treatment of individuals as young as age 7 and as old as 72.
