About My Clients
I have a varied practice which includes Adults and Couples coping with a wide range of problems. Less Judgement ...More Curiosity fits my approach. I treat both child and adult onset PTSD, Childhood Emotional Neglect, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, Anxiety, Depression and Anger Management. My ideal clients are interested in change and growth fostered through compassion and I try to help them get the life they want and deserve.
My Background and Approach
Getting to know the client and listening carefully to understand what is important to them is fundamental to my practice. Treatment is tailored to the patients style, needs and preferences. I have been trained and teach many forms of therapy including the popular evidenced based psychotherapies. I have treated and trained others in treatments such as DBT, CBT and more dynamic approaches so I can be flexible in my approach to clients problems. The background of any therapy is a good relationship with your therapist so that is my first and most important goal. The relationship, by being non judgmental promotes open safe communication about sensitive subjects which is the basis of our work together. I encourage my clients to talk to me, even about how the therapy is going and whether it fits their needs. After we have met whatever initial goals/improvements they wanted, they may move on, but I remain available and they return as needed which I take as a compliment!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people are people, in some ways different, but more the same. I accept people as they are and your goals are the only ones that matter for you. I have worked extensively with varied populations and have learned from them about their experience in cultures, races or gender identity. Since I am accepting, I have not had any problems with diverse populations. My 27 yrs at the Dept of Veterans Affairs and the diverse and significant issues that population faces promoted open-mindedness. I also belong to the American Academy of Psychotherapist which is an organization that focuses not only to fostering the growth of excellence in therapists, but also in having us face our own issues (yes we all have issues). This dynamic process helps us to continue our growth as therapist and also to keep us in touch with how it feels to look at and work on yourself. I do have a therapy dog available upon request to help with anxiety if you think that would be helpful.
