Initially, the goal is to establish rapport, build alliance. The process of creating a safe, non judgemental space allows for clients to feel comfortable, trust and open up to explore issues/goals they want to work on. I believe it is important to establish goals that the clients wants to achieve while in therapy and present them with approaches and explanations of those approaches. Communication and transparency is important. Once goals are set, I can utilize CBT, strength based approaches, trauma informed, feminist theory approaches to help clients meet their goals. That may include homework assignments, work sheets, mediation, developing coping skills and role playing. Additionally, I use humor, music, popular culture, to enhance the therapeutic experience to release the pressure & stigma that may come along with working on mental health issues.
I believe that we all have solutions to our problems and with help, guidance and empowerment we can feel confident about making the decisions that serve us in living a healthier, happier life. When it comes to mental health, I want to be able to provide proper tools, psycho education & support in order for clients to feel as if they have reach their highest potential. Personally, therapy has helped me gain confidence and assurance within myself that my anxiety does not control my life.
I am passionate about human right's, animal rights and participate in addressing social justice issues as well as practicing using a framework that includes acknowledging social problems.
I believe in laughter, music and petting dogs as a huge step towards healing. If this sounds like a way you'd like to approach your mental health journey, send me a message!
