About My Clients

Often times we are told that life is linear and if we just tried harder, life will be ok - whether it be in our personal lives or professional - but then we hit roadblocks like a breakup, a divorce, death, cancer, and we realize that we're not prepared to handle these crisis. Crisis can be debilitating or transforming, but I can move you to transformation.

My Background and Approach

Maria holds a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from CIIS, and B.S. in Neuroscience from UCSD. Maria's unique approach to psychotherapy is informed by her background in neuroscience and counseling psychology, as well as her meditation practice. Maria also provides diversity training to interdisciplinary professionals, including professionals in Family Courts.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Crisis is life's way of telling you that something isn't working and it is time to make changes. Crisis also activates our brain and sends an alarm to our body for a fight-flight-freeze reaction. We may find ourselves stuck and frozen with fear; run away and avoid the crisis; or act out in anger. Maria provides grounding techniques to deactivate our bodies natural responses to a crisis, and she provides a safe space for her clients to unravel so that they may find the courage to examine their life. When we find the courage to see ourselves - all the bad and the good - can we begin to move forward.
