About My Clients

My clients include those who would like help with: stress and anxiety management, coping with the unique demands of being an athlete (life balance, recovering from injury), life transitions (perimenopause, changing jobs), health and wellness, and issues related to the LGBTQ community.

My Background and Approach

I’m a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Providence RI. Psychology is my second career. After working as a professor and research scientist studying experimental medications in the treatment of high blood pressure, I decided to re-train in clinical psychology to continue my understanding of stress, health and well-being, but from a psychological standpoint. My research and clinical work combine my training in both medical sciences and clinical psychology, embracing the biopsychosocial model of health and disease. I use an integrated approach to psychotherapy, meaning that I draw from a variety of theoretical perspectives depending on the person and the issues they bring to therapy. Thus, therapy may involve examining and correcting distorted thoughts and behaviors, recalling one's history as it relates to unhealthy patterns in current day functioning and learning scientifically validated tools to then utilize on your own.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that psychotherapy should create a safe and conducive environment for exploration and change, be affirming and empathic, facilitate learning and self-discovery, and provide feedback about unhealthy life patterns. My life experiences have informed my approach to teaching others to improve their circumstances. As a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a student of Zen, balance and mindfulness are an important part of my life. As a triathlete, I have learned how mental discipline can push one beyond what they thought was physically possible. My newest endeavor is learning electric guitar, to challenge my brain and again, push myself way out of my comfort zone. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope. You might be initially hesitant to seek out help and support for personal matters, but when you do, you will feel confident that you are taking a courageous first step towards getting to a better place.
