About My Clients
Whether you are struggling in your important relationships, trying to cope with the impact of past trauma, or exploring questions of meaning and identity, searching for a therapist is a courageous first step toward building the life you've been wishing for. I offer a place to explore your questions, hopes, struggles, and joys in the context of a safe, connected relationship free of judgment. I invest my time outside of sessions in training and research to ensure I am offering you what works.
My Background and Approach
A session with me might include talking through a problem or conflict, role playing to practice communication skills, creating a model of a current issue in the sand tray, or expressing emotions with art. For clients experiencing intrusive symptoms related to trauma, I am trained in two evidence-based therapies to provide you with relief: ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). For couples working through conflict or rebuilding trust, I am trained in both Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and integrate them together to help you find your way back to one another. For working with children, I am trained in play therapy and expressive arts, and integrate them together to allow child clients to process emotions and life events in their native language of play.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that you are the expert of your own life, and that change and growth are fundamental to the human experience. I recognize that personal change is not sufficient for relief from issues stemming from dysfunctional or oppressive systems. Part of empowerment as an individual, in my view, is acknowledging and taking ownership of our roles in our communities, and taking direct action to effect social and political change. My personal experience with activism for causes I am passionate about has given me insight into just how powerful being part of a movement can be in combatting the feelings of powerlessness that emerge in moments of social and political turmoil.
