Marysol Chavez (she/her)

I received my masters from the University of Colorado Denver, Master of Arts in Counseling, Couples & Family Therapy. I obtained additional training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals and Couples. I approach all my clients with an attachment lens. I do this by learning about their family of origin, learning about their attachment styles, and making connections between their attachment and how they currently view the world. I have found this specifically helpful when working with couples in non-secure attachments. By beginning to unravel their attachments to their care givers the patterns in their romantic relationship become more evident. I find it truly powerful when clients begin to realize their unmet needs and need for connection.

In my culture I have seen and heard many times people speak of mental health services as something that is for the deviant, almost frown upon to have to seek help. There is a lot of shame and secrecy that is held in many families that creates a transgenerational cycle of trauma. I see my role in the mental health field as an advocate through my work with people. I hope that by helping one person, I can create a ripple effect of the benefits of mental health services that can reach a friend, a neighbor, or the larger community. I am constantly learning more each day about fairness and injustices within different groups of people. I hope to keep adjusting and promoting the wellness of everyone. I bring these topics into my sessions by broaching my identities and learning those of my client. I provide a safe and comfortable environment where the client can feel heard and understood about any topic of oppression or prejudice.
