Clinical Social Worker in Plano, TX
I have found mindfulness skills and mindfulness-based therapy approaches to be integral to the healing process. The changes that we can experience by honing these skills allows for increased ability to tolerate distress, increased clarity of thinking, and overall improvement in functioning.
I am EMDR trained and believe that learning should be lifelong, so I continue to participate in consultation and training whenever I can. I use this modality to address unhelpful core beliefs that may have become "stuck" due to traumatic experiences, life transitions, losses, or other circumstances. Common reasons clients see me for EMDR are PTSD, anxiety, and/or low self esteem.
CBT guides therapy with foundational tools and skills. For clients seeking to gain practical tools to use in daily life, CBT can be a game-changing modality. I have found that using CBT as a foundation but expanding the work through mindfulness-based therapist or EMDR can create lasting, meaningful change.
Along my journey as a therapist it has become increasingly clear how crucial it is to include the body in addressing trauma and other impactful life events. This has led to a shift in the foundation of my work from cognitive-focused interventions like CBT and solutions-focused therapy to modalities and interventions that take into account the mind-body connection. This includes IFS-informed parts work as well as EMDR for trauma.
