About My Clients

My clients are often facing transitions in their life whether it be questioning their identity, their career, their culture, or where they fit in the world. Sometimes people are feeling stuck with these questions and need some guidance to begin moving again. Sometimes people are experiencing some anxiety or depression and we'll try to ease those symptoms before moving into some of the deeper questions.

My Background and Approach

I work from a person-centered approach to encompass all that you are. As a white, educated, middle class, queer trans therapist, I've experienced a lot of change and I recognize the privilege that has allowed me to make these changes. My goal for you is for you to have an understanding of who you are and how you want to live in the world. This can help you to adjust to change in future. Sometimes it's difficult to hear the questions because of harmful attitudes and beliefs around you. Sometimes your own critical voice may be getting in the way. I want you to trust yourself and your own knowledge. At a pace that's comfortable for you, we'll look at those beliefs and find out where they may be coming from. I'll help you develop the skills to move confidently in the world within your own identity. We'll examine the questions as they come up and you can start moving forward.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm a queer trans therapist and use the pronouns they/them. It has taken me a while to arrive where I'm at, you can call me a slow learner! I recognize the oppression and discrimination that people often feel in marginalized communities and I acknowledge the privilege I've had as a white, college educated, middle-class person. I know that being in the queer community can create anxiety, depression, and isolation. It can be difficult to build a support and/or social group. Since I work from a systemic perspective, I know that part of improving your mental health may be focusing on developing friendships as well as changing employment or moving. While this may sound scary, it can be done. A little more about myself - after being a software developer for many years, I made a career change into counseling. When I'm not counseling, you might find me out walking, reading a book, doing tai-chi, or perhaps engrossed in a show on Netflix! And don't forget cuddling with my cat, Griffin.
