Anxiety often co-occurs with many other mental health issues. I view anxiety through the lens of attachment. Attachment effects our sense of self and belonging which can make us feel unsafe, which is essentially anxiety. Addressing attachment, family-of-origin, and the neurobiological effects of attachment can root out the origins of the anxiety and create long lasting change. As we go through this journey we learn body awareness and coping skills to address anxiety symptoms in the present.
Codependency is not negative. In fact is it a survival response. Codependency is often a push-pull feeling like, "I hate you, don't leave me." We can get caught in unhappy relational cycles because our brains have been wired to connect to others in this way. In therapy we work on address attachment wounds and rewiring neural pathways through practices like boundaries and thought restructuring.
