About My Clients

The clients I see are a diverse bunch! They differ in things like age, gender, career, parenting styles, sexual orientation, race, and religion. I'm a good fit for clients who are invested in understanding themselves and their lives, and who want to see if there is anything they can do to help themselves feel more happy. Happy is good, we like happy - and we like relaxed - it's what we're shooting for.

How I Can Help You

I still feel shock when I realize I've been in the counseling field in some capacity for over 20 years, and I've been in private practice for the last 15. I have both a master's and Ph.D. in counselor education and I take a very humanistic, balanced, thought-driven approach to working with people. I think my approach of being open, true to who I am, humorous, self-effacing, honest, compassionate, and flexible works quite well for those clients whom I have the honor to help. Working with me means looking at your life's experiences - your good and your not good - and reconciling how, why, and when those events have an impact on you today. We will make these connections, make sense of them, and then place them back into your life's narrative with more knowledge, more self-compassion, more enthusiasm for your own emotional potential. Hopefully, we have a laugh or two on the way.

My Values as a Therapist

I believe people can transform their understanding of the world and how they behave within it. There are a lot of things that no one can change or have control over, and I believe that thriving means recognizing when one is trying to control what they cannot, and where they are capable of making change. Informed decisions can be made on how to proceed based upon that new knowledge. I believe that we can absolutely never say what we think we would do or not do, or say or not say, or react or not react in any particular situation until we are there. Therefore, my focus is on gaining and perhaps starting to understand a person's perspective and doing what I can to try and understand the world according to them. Then they begin to identify what can change and how to change it. I also happen to love my family, my dog, and my cat. I confess to quoting concepts and lessons from Star Trek, reality shows, or other equally nostalgic pre-21st century entertainment.
