Trauma can be scary - it feels like you are constantly reliving it every day. Evidenced based practices like CBT can help you to build your skills and resources for your 'emotional muscles.' Let's start a journey of healing.
My Background and Approach
I am Michael Serrano, a bilingual and Latinx Licensed Clinical Social Worker here in New York City. I earned a Master’s in Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College with a concentration in clinical practice with children, youth and families. I am a 2015 alumnus of the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) Minority Fellowship Program. The fellowship’s aim is to develop expertise in mental health services to at-risk children and youth (adolescents and young adults aged 16-25) in underserved minority communities.I specialize in working with children, youth, adults and families who have suffered a traumatic event which includes sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, domestic violence and community violence.I work from a person-centered, cross-cultural, humanistic and psychodynamic perspectives. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone has the ability to heal and grow. I believe that our environment at times adds to our stress. I am cognizant of how class, race, gender and socio-economic status plays a role in a person’s lived experience. Growing up, I suffered from trauma and anxiety. Through my own healing, with therapy, I have learned the skills in order to deal with anxiety, sadness and dealing with my triggers. For self-care, I like to shop at Target and take walks. I love dogs by the way! If you want to learn more about my journey, please shoot me an email.
