About My Clients

Do you have a running dialogue in your head. Ever notice how the voice talks about things you “should” be doing, opportunities missed or failures? Together, we will work to change the dialogue and begin to be kind to yourself. When you talk to your partner do you hear carnival music because it feels as if you’re in a funhouse (without the fun). Talking gets you nowhere as old stuff comes into the conversation. “How about the time you did.” It’s beyond frustrating and exhausting.

My Background and Approach

I work with individuals and couples in a safe, non-judgmental place; I focus on emotions and attachment issues as I believe emotions drive our behavior. I will help you explore and make meaning out of family of origin issues. We will discuss your shame, the critical voice who doesn't give you a break is not your voice. This is your adaptive child who has incorporated the negative comments as internalized shame. If you're feeling a twinge just reading about shame, it is your body's signal that you have internalized shame. You will learn to become aware of what your body is telling you. In couple's sessions I first attempt to lower the stress in the relationship because when your defenses are on high alert, comments are filtered through protecting yourself. I will give you the tools to deescalate your tension and then we can process what is happening in the relationship and how to listen and share with empathy and vulnerability.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Therapy is not easy work, and change does not happen overnight. I have tremendous respect for my clients. Admitting you need help and making the call takes courage. I have been married for 33 years, and among the stops in my journey, I have been a business owner, unemployed, and a caregiver to my parents for many years. I understand stress, confusion, sadness and loss. I know change is possible. I use mindfulness, EFT, Gottman and attachment theory to empower clients to realize their best selves.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
