About My Clients
I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, military members, veterans, and families. I also enjoy helping individuals who identify as queer, trans, and non-binary/gender nonconforming. By personalizing therapy, I help those struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, and related concerns learn to cope in more effective ways. I am excited to work with clients who are motivated for treatment who are ready to learn and practice skills to improve their daily lives.
How I Can Help You
You can be the author of your own story! Sometimes it may seem as though life hands you a deck of cards and you are stuck with whatever hand you are dealt. You struggle to cope with overwhelming thoughts, feelings, or behaviors due to past experiences. You do your best to find ways to get by. Some of these coping styles can be helpful, while others are less helpful and may lead to struggles with everyday living. Through understanding how your story is related to your present challenges, you can develop a sense of agency to edit your story and enact change in your life. If we all only have one life to live, why stick with habitual ways of coping that hinder your ability to live fully? I empower individuals with anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders to free themselves from limiting beliefs and behaviors and live with strength and flexibility. We will collaboratively explore old patterns and create new ones using mindfulness to focus attention on responding to challenges with intention.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of my recent passions has been volunteering at a therapeutic horse riding program, the Temple Grandin Equine Center, which is located in Denver, CO. I believe strongly in the value of in attending to both the mind and the body in treatment, and I strive to practice what I preach. I find working with horses to be incredibly grounding due to the immediacy with which you must guide and respond to their cues. It really brings you into the moment and focuses your attention on the here and now! What's great about this activity is that I am able to: 1) actively practice mindfulness and embodiment, and 2)volunteer my time to help children with autism engage in adaptive riding to build emotion regulation skills. I encourage clients to practice centering themselves through connecting with animals - pets included!
