About My Clients
Are you feeing anxious, stressed, depressed; or are you experiencing relationship issues, injustices, life transitions, difficulty adjusting to a new culture? I can related to all of these experiences (and more). I understand the importance of having a safe space to express yourself, receive support and strategies to cope and feel better - that's where I come in! I practice from an approach that stems from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but also integrate other modalities to best fit your needs.
My Background and Approach
In a world that is ever-changing and continuously throwing challenges our way, it can be difficult to see or feel your own sense of strength. The meaning of being “well” has been hard to define, especially during the past couple of years. If you are reading this right now, that means you have already taken steps towards your journey to wellness - and before we go any further, let me tell you – I am proud of you! I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and Ph.D. in International Psychology. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, group, and family settings. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe and have lived in the USA for the past 18 years. As an immigrant, I understand the challenges that often prevent individuals from seeking mental health services, especially in minority communities – it can be a scary path to embark on, and I work to create a safe space to aid in breaking those barriers.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Our cultural beliefs, the environments we grew up in, and how we were raised all shape our world-view, perceptions, and responses to situations. For many of us who grew up in families and cultures where mental health issues were taboo to discuss, we often learned to keep things bottled up and sometimes turned to unhealthy ways to cope with the various stressors that come with daily life. Now, as adults, we're having to un-learn the unhealthy behaviors and move past the shame that we've placed on ourselves for not feeling okay or wanting to seek help. It is important to know that you are not alone in this process. The past few years have been really hard and have put us in positions where a lot of the things we kept bottled up, started bubbling over and seeping into all areas of our lives. Whatever that may look like or feel like for you, I provide a safe space to explore this and assist you in defining what wellness means to you. Lets's get to healing, growing and wellness - okay ;)!
