Hi, I'm Natalie and I'm so glad you found me. I welcome you to reach out if you feel we might be a good fit to work together.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Oakland, CA
Welcoming people in all stages of alcohol misuse and addiction recovery, I support healthy inquiry into your relationship to alcohol. Parts of this process inevitably include releasing shame about unhealthy use, finding compassionate insight in order to make changes that will ultimately help deeper healing of the root of this behavioral pattern. I welcome harm reduction and abstinence goals as well as encourage finding a path that works best for you while supporting self honesty and awareness.
Specializing in couples, I support you and your romantic partner to work though issues and develop new skills along with deeper insight into your struggles. I support partners to explore how identity, culture, attachment style and previous trauma all contribute to chronic patterns of disconnection and unhelpful conflict styles. Being passionate about this work, I attend conferences, trainings, workshops and read books regularly to stay up to date on how to best help couples who seek my help.
Attachment can be a complex inquiry to explore and can be complicated by contextual experiences such as identity, culture and other types of trauma. I have taken many trainings on how to best understand each individual person and their relational strengths as well as challenges in creating healthy, sustainable connection with close loved ones. I welcome people of all identities to explore how they best connect and find insight into what they need to feel more secure in their relationships.
Focusing on specialized training since 2014, and working with couples for over a decade, I aim to help you with a blend of approaches best suited to what you need. My extensive experience tells me couples work can be a complex process of learning how to better communicate and change your interactions from a place of insight and love. I believe it's one of the most transformational forms of healing that supports learning to open your heart even when in pain and empowering yourself to change.
With specialized training and consultation, I have always had a depth focus in my practice. What I've learned is that while some people need a brief period of support, others have layers of past experiences that need regular attention in order to attend to and build insight into in order to create healthy and lasting change. My many years of training and over a decade of experience practicing depth work informs me that these changes come from a place of self-awareness and integration.
Specializing in couples, I have most experience with those who are considering engagement or preparing for marriage. Common themes come up including alignment on future goals, finding work life balance, learning about stress management, exploring habits for relationship maintenance, collaborating on sexual differences, building emotional intimacy and improving conflict styles. I've helped many couples successfully build a lasting foundation in this important preparation phase of partnership.
