My Background and Approach

I have a background in family therapy, and in athletics. I received my master's degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of Oregon, and my bachelors degree in English from Macalester College. My therapeutic career began in Eugene, OR, at an outpatient pediatric clinic, where I worked with youth and their families on a wide range of presenting issues. I opened my practice in Portland in 2014, and the bulk of my work has focused on helping adolescents and their families navigate the challenges of adolescence. I have also worked for four years as a college baseball coach, and have unique experience helping athletes with a variety of performance issues. My intention is to drawn on clients' strengths, resources, past successes, to infuse new perspective into your solution-building process. My goal is to make therapy feel accessible and welcoming. I view myself as a guide in your therapeutic change process. It’s always my goal to help empower you to solve your own problems.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe in offering affordable therapy, which is why I offer a sliding scale for clients who cannot afford my full fee. I believe today's boys and young men are facing a crisis of identity, and need positive male role models who can dispel the myth that for men, emotion equals weakness. I also believe that adolescence is a period of life to be celebrated, not dreaded, and I enjoy helping families come together to embrace the changes of this transitional life stage. I consider myself to be open-minded, accepting, and aware of how systemic issues of race, class, power, and privilege impact people in my community. I am open to working with all clients regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. I also love baseball, and am an assistant coach at a local college. I play the ukulele, listen to the blues, and had a previous career as a sports-writer.
