About My Clients

I work with highly compassionate adults, struggling with codependency, shame, and low self-esteem, helping them build a foundation of self-love from which their natural capacity for caring can become a superpower at a time when the world needs more people willing to stand up for what’s right. As my clients step into their power and take control of their lives, they start responding in healthy ways to global issues that humanity has yet to solve  (like COVID, systemic racism, climate change).

My Background and Approach

I use an integrative systems-oriented approach to healing and change by combining various methods of psychotherapy. In addition to humanistic and psychodynamic approaches, in which I look at the whole person and shine a light on how early life experiences caused us to develop unconscious beliefs that interfere with present-day functioning, I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT, which is an evidence-based approach grounded in mindfulness that has been proven to work for depression and anxiety to help individuals break free from limiting beliefs to lead lives based on their core values.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm half-Persian, and I go by my Arabic given name of Nauser, which rhymes with saucer. I have a history of anti-war and community activism, and I saw how easy it was in those spaces to get burned out and lose hope, like when millions of protesters worldwide failed to prevent the Iraq war. We were fighting against the forces that cause people to kill each other and abuse power, but we kept getting caught in those same destructive dynamics in our own relationships, even within the activism community. Martin Luther King, Jr., said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” I take that idea seriously: we need to change the way we think and feel, and the actions that we take as a result. Those of us who feel the world’s pain carry a heavy burden, and therapy gives us the tools to go deeper inside of ourselves to heal that pain at its source. This frees us to be our true authentic selves and lead the way to a new world.
