About My Clients
My clients tend to be folx who are at the intersection of multiple margins, including race, sexual orientation, gender identity and socio economic status. I work with clients of immigrant experience, including 1.5 and 2nd generation children of immigrants. I work with clients who have complex trauma stemming from family of origin. I help my clients understand their sense of self in a family and community system, help heal old relational wounds and support their personal and communal liberation.
My Background and Approach
I have a Masters in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. My clinical orientation includes transpersonal (exploration of ego, spirit and soul), psychodynamic (exploring the impact of early childhood experiences on you today), somatic experiencing and Internal Family System/parts work informed therapy. I have also been trained in the experiential method for processing trauma and challenging emotional states called Brainspotting, which was derived from EMDR. I believe in attending to body and mind in therapy, so I will frequently offer grounding exercises to connect your current experience with body awareness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a queer clinician of color, my current aspiration is to support queer and trans people of color by providing psychotherapy and holding the simple truth that healing has happened in many different forms for thousands of years, in many different cultures. I believe in evidenced based models as much as I believe in models that work beyond the scientific method's reach for qualification. I believe that each client has an innate wisdom towards healing and it is my job to listen deeply to this wisdom in order to facilitate healing. I also believe it is important to know if your therapist is aligned with your belief systems (i.e., to support you in growing into your fullest potential).
