About My Clients

Every day seems to be another blow, not only to your self-esteem but to the very core of what makes you human. You’re not being too sensitive. Anxiety for marginalized groups is real. You’ve spent most of your life acutely aware of your otherness. But lately, you’ve begun to feel something different. You struggle to recognize who is genuine and who isn’t. You can’t watch, read, or listen to the news without feeling an overwhelming sense of dread.

My Background and Approach

Through empathetic listening, I provide a space where you can feel completely safe to open up. As your therapist, I'll give you a safe place to explore your true feelings. I'll give you tools and strategies to help you through these scary times. I will be your safe face. When appropriate I may also incorporate therapeutic models such as Narrative Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy. With the experience of living on both US coasts, being raised in the deep South, and moving from large urban cities full of diversity to small towns where people who look like me are few and far between. I bring unique insights into what you may be experiencing. Together, we'll explore how to get to a place where your worry and stress no longer overshadow your life. I received my Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas. After working as a rehabilitation counselor I began a long career as an American Sign Language Interpreter. I'm now returning to the counseling field.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As I watched the screen that day, my mom had no idea she was starting the clock for when I realized my color meant danger. It was a news clip from the sixties show fire hoses and dogs being turned on men, women, and children who looked like me. My journey from that moment to now has been one of many hills and valleys, and countless lessons about self-care and collective human flourishing. I know what it’s like to sit on the couch fighting not to give in to the darkness of hate. This intimate knowledge allows me to say with confidence that this anxiety doesn’t have to consume you. I also have an obsession with Tex-Mex nachos... but I digress.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
