As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I am deeply aware of the painful and often debilitating challenges that this experience presents. For the last two years I have been a participant in the three-year Somatic Experiencing Training Program (SE)ⓒ for resolving trauma, much of which focused on inescapable attack and sexual assault in particular. I feel well-equipped to facilitate your healing in this area, and to help you regain a sense of wholeness for having fulfilling relationships.
Have you lost someone, or something, dear to you? Have you been struggling with the loss, not knowing how respond to it in some meaningful way? If the loss was due to suicide, do you feel guilty, ashamed, afraid, confused, alone, angry, bitter, or devastated by this challenging event? Have you found it difficult or impossible to talk with anyone about how you feel? You are not alone. I will provide you a safe, supportive environment in which you can explore and work through your experience.
I began studying Yoga and mindfulness-based meditation nearly fifty years ago and have been using a mindfulness-based approach with my clients for more than fifteen years. I have utilized Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction practices with clients and with myself and have been a devoted student of Zen Buddhism since the 1980's. Mindfulness of body, breath, feelings, sensations, thoughts, impulses, energy patterns and environment are key to living a rich, full and meaningful life.
For the past two years I have been a participant in the three-year Somatic Experiencing (SE)ⓒ Training Program for resolving trauma and I've completed the Intermediate level of the training. I will be an Advanced student in the Spring. SE has taught me the immense value of the body, as experienced from within, as a resource for healing and transforming physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual wounds, and behavior patterns that have been a source of pain and suffering for years.
I was introduced to the radical immediate effectiveness of Experiential, Here and Now Therapy through the writings of Fritz Perls and the work of some of his students with whom I studied and trained in the early 1970's. Experiential Therapy simply means bringing awareness and attention to your experience in the present moment, as it unfolds, with the guidance and support of a skilled therapist, and reporting what you discover. It can be an effective path to healing.
