This specialty encompasses a multitude of other issues that this format doesn't allow one to explain or list. Each couple can have a huge variety of issues w/ major complications & significant nuances that call for a specialized focus and approach in therapy. Historically, I have worked w/ many couples who had unsatisfying or failed prior attempts at couple therapy. The intensity & complexity... and hence, frustration in the relationship often calls for difficult work that I can handle.

Many individuals, both young and adult have undiagnosed Aspergian qualities (and giftedness) that compromise and complex their social and emotional functioning- hence, their relationships. Often told they are rude or mean- a moral condemnation, they are often gratified as I explain to them their logical, if problematic functioning. In other words, I can help them understand and accept their processing styles... AND how to adapt or develop more successful behaviors and communication.

Teens are often misunderstood, while well-loved and highly frustrating. Connecting with them over their incredibly intense developmental challenges is the foundation to therapy. When the urgency becomes what adults want them to do or be (or not do or not be), teens feel dismissed and disrespected for who and what they are. Teen works starts with eliciting and then reflecting to them their developmental challenges AND their cross-cultural dilemmas trying to enter into an unfamiliar adult life.

Being attuned to each person or couple/family's developmental background and experienc broadens the concept Culturally sensitive therapy to include anything and EVERYTHING that may be relevant. Attitudes, values, beliefs, and behaviors develop and/or are promoted for each person to survive the stress, demands, challenges... and sometimes, trauma of their childhood and/or community. That community may be an ethnic, racial, or religious community, but it also may be one's family of origin.

Clients should not be run through a favored therapy. Each person, each couple or family has its own issues and needs, and therapy should adapt to meet them there. Eclectic therapy, essentially means individualizing to whatever is the most relevant and prominent issues to lead to the healing, growth, change, or decisions required for health and personal growth. Attachment, trauma, insight, embedded values, compulsions/addictions, abuse, culture, & many other issues demand specific treatment.

Individuals don't become themselves in isolation, nor do they function in isolation. The family modeling and training is a powerful force that may create behaviors and patterns that prove dysfunctional as one grows and encounters new people in new situations with new demands. Old systems- values, behaviors, roles, needs, and communication often come into conflict with other's systems, as two or more people struggle and seek assistance in therapy to develop a new healthy functional system.
