About My Clients

My clients are adult survivors and witnesses to horrible experiences, such as natural disasters or tragic accidents. I work with survivors of near-death experiences, combat trauma, verbal, physical, psychological or sexual abuse. My clients are seeking recovery from the aftermath of these events. Some are experiencing flashbacks, sleep disturbances, nightmares, re-experiencing of the traumatic event, moodiness, agitation, or dissociation from the present and disconnection from others.

My Background and Approach

At the age of ten, I survived a near-death experience. I developed PTSD and later recovered from my symptoms after receiving help from a therapist. This led me to become a trauma recovery therapist. I earned my BS degree from Texas A&M University and then my MSW from Hunter College in New York. I will engage you using a psychodynamic, trauma-informed perspective. As your therapeutic ally, I regard you as the expert on your life, while assisting you in determining how to build a future that includes positive coping behavior, healthy and satisfying relationships, and a sense of ease, peace and joy. My approach is tailored to your individual needs, however, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing techniques, when appropriate, and am trained extensively in the principles of motivational interviewing and harm reduction techniques which I use in conjunction with a psychodynamic therapeutic approach which is grounded in ego relatedness and relational theory.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe it is an honor and a privilege to work with the diverse array of clients who seek my services. I utilize my platform as an individual psychotherapist to promote social justice one person at a time, by listening and bearing witness to the stories of others, allowing each person to give voice to their experience. I work with adults from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, spiritualities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. I am an LGBTQ ally. I aim to provide an empowering experience for every client by creating a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, where each client feels heard, can be their true self, and the full spectrum of emotions can be experienced and explored without shame or judgment.
