Associate Marriage & Family Therapist in Austin, TX
Supervised by Dave Braham, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Supervisor
I work with adolescents striving to develop their own independence and sense of identity. Navigating your peer and family relationships, managing your own thoughts, beliefs, and feelings, and cultivating your own sense of self while looking ahead to the future can be extremely complex tasks. I am here to help you begin to understand who you are, what you want in life, and to help navigate relationships with people who matter to you.
Are you struggling to be seen or heard in your family? Do you wish you had more positive ways of interacting with your loved ones? Would you like to find new strategies for parenting your child or connecting with your teen? My work with families centers around reducing conflict and deepening connections throughout the family system by helping increase family members' capacities to communicate wants, needs, and feelings and helping create a family culture of openness and respect.
Let's improve that communication! Communication goes both ways: creating space in yourself to honor and express your wants, needs, and desires and holding space to value and receive your partner's wants, needs, and desires, in turn. I work to help you and your partner develop a loving, open connection with each other. Understanding your own and your partner's backgrounds, stressors, and familial relationships can help to bridge the gap to authentic connection in your relationship.
I believe societal pressures and constructs impact every individual, and therefore, every relationship. Feminist therapy and feminist family therapy acknowledge how societal expectations, gender constructs, and personal biases can influence an individual's ability to connect with others and prescribe how they do so. As a feminist therapist, I can help you understand and examine how expectations from those around us influence our sense of self and how we show up in our relationships and lives.
We as individuals form our unique worldviews by the attachment styles we develop with our parents, by the dynamics of our family relationships, friendships, and romantic partnerships throughout our lives. I work collaboratively in partnership with you, honoring your worldview, to recognize what’s going well in your family or couple dynamic, explore where and how you and your relationships can grow, and assisting you increase connection with your loved ones.
