My personal belief is that grief is the measure of how much someone or something meant to us.
One of my most favorite songs growing up was 'The Dance' by Garth Brooks. But it wasn't until I was deep into my grieving process as an adult that I really understood what the song meant and just how powerful it is.
"I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance"
I mean, really - how much amazing and good things in life would we miss out on to avoid being a griever? All the good stuff, all the stuff that really matters.
So, while grief is one of the most painful and difficult experiences I have ever been through, I am so thankful for it, because it means I had something really special, something worth grieving over.
