Welcome. Glad you are here! Come as you are. My name is Stephanie and I provide individualized and integrative therapy to adults.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in San Diego, CA
As a subscriber to existentialism and existential therapy, I identify as a fellow traveler with an awareness of the ultimate concerns of human existence such as freedom, death, isolation, and meaning and purpose of life. We are all in this together. No person is immune to the inherent tragedies of existence. Sharing the essence of the human condition becomes the bedrock of the therapeutic work.
As an expert in Rogerian, Person-Centered therapy, I understand that my role is to provide a safe space encompassing empathy, congruence, and positive regard so that you can move in a positive forward direction in where you want to go. As Carl Rogers once said, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
As I work with individuals experiencing, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, or trauma I use my expertise in psychodynamic therapy and focus on processing feelings and emotions. The therapeutic relationship can be an adventure of self-reflection and arduous challenges, helping uncover beliefs in order to gain insight into their current self.
I specialize in life transitions and adjustments caused by one or more life stressors. In adults, these stressors are most commonly related to relationship issues, finances, or work. In young adults, common stressors include school problems, family or parents' marital problems, or issues around identity and sexuality. I work with individuals experiencing change and support the process of untangling the many emotions, feelings, and thoughts that come along with it.
I specialize in working with adults who experience depression. The persistent feeling of sadness or loss of interest that characterizes major depression can lead to manifestations including mental, emotional, and physical. These may include changes in sleep, appetite, energy level, concentration, daily behavior, or self-esteem. I help facilitate the exploration of emotions and thoughts with clients who experience depression so that they can get to the root of their experience.
I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with self-esteem and self-confidence. Do you find yourself often comparing yourself to others, sensitive to criticism, quick to blame, or doubt yourself in conflict? Are you often apologizing for things that you have no control over? Is prioritizing your own needs, making your own choices, and speaking up difficult for you? Addressing and overcoming low self-esteem is an investment that will change your life!
My practice reflects an active commitment to social justice and intergenerational healing on an individual, community, institutional and global scale. I have been a lifelong learner, driven by my innate curiosity and passion for exploration of self and others. With an anti-oppressive framework, I hold a vision for providing modern mental health services that reflect the values of ethical and sustainable wellness.
