Hello! I'm Susan, 50+ years old, queer, cis female. Pronouns: She/Her/Hers.

For many First Responders, EMS personnel, Emergency Department personnel things seemed to be going fine until it wasn’t, and really, WTF is that all about anyway? Why is this happening? The weight of the responsibility for other lives, doing the job to others' expectations, and trying to maintain your own levels of job performance can get exhausting. Then it's about trying to find the internal resources to be present for family and/or partners.
Anxiety shows up in multiple ways: anger, intrusive thoughts, restlessness, racing thoughts, poor concentration, constant worries, overthinking, and at times, panic. The doubts of self-worth and lower self-esteem because you believe you should get a grip and just can't manage it. It’s overwhelming and exhausting just being yourself, let alone showing up for personal or work relationships and obligations.
Finally taking the step to let people know really who we are, identifying ourselves and figuring out living authentically causes many of us to be anxious. We want to be ourselves, but the continuing prejudices and obstacles create the doubt that we can do so. I'm part of the LGBTQIA2s+ community, working with folx living with anxiety, and provide support for those thinking about, in the process of or living life after transition.
