About My Clients
*I am not currently accepting new clients.* My overcontrolled clients tend to have too much self-control. They often are anxious and depressed, and suppress emotions, delay gratification, have rigid rules and behavior. I treat disorders such as perfectionism, anorexia, anxiety, depression and personality disorders (Avoidant, Obsessive Compulsive, Schizoid, and Paranoid). Additionally, I am passionate about working with clients with psychotic disorders and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
My Background and Approach
My approach uses Radically Open DBT (RO DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as treatments like DBT or trauma focused processing when needed. RO DBT is used for disorders of overcontrol. I use ACT for many clients who have used traditional therapy styles before and need a new focus. CBTp (CBT for psychosis) is evidence based to treat schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders. Having worked inpatient for several years, I witnesses the vast range of symptoms and the improvement that is made with treatment, support and collaboration between the patient, family and providers. CBTp helps them to reframe thoughts and verbalize experiences, understand emotions and improve behavioral responses.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in helping clients connect with their community and to reclaim a sense of understanding in themselves. I believe in body positivity, inclusivity and kindness. I hope to improve access to treatment and provide understanding for clients who have felt misunderstood or disconnected. Many overcontrolled clients see themselves as different, and face challenges engaging with friends, family and the community. Through RO DBT, they learn skills to consider new perspectives, try new behaviors and engage with others. Individuals with schizophrenia spectrum/psychotic disorders experience a wide range of symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking & speech, and abnormal behavior. I hope to educate these clients about their symptoms, lessen the impact of the illness, help them to engage with family or community, and collaborate with their medication provider.
