Elinor (Elly) Nygren SzapiroLicensed Professional Counselor, LPC
I've been in practice over 40 years, and have the tools and experience to get to the heart of things and resolve whatever is 'up' for you.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.
Do you ever find yourself thinking that you could conquer the world if you could just get out of your own way? Does your brain spin and spin without stopping? Do you nitpick every little thing about yourself, even when others think you're amazing? If you're struggling with overthinking, compulsive working and just can't seem to relax, I can help you. Whether your problem is anxiety, perfectionism, or you are stuck reliving past trauma, I have tools and training that can help you learn to thrive!
Do you want to learn more about yourself and improve your life? Are you struggling to get by, but want to have a different life? Are you trying to figure out what is keeping you stuck? Some of the struggles my clients have include: anxiety, depression, trauma, ADD/ADHD, and sleep difficulties. I understand it's overwhelming at times. I often work with highly sensitive individuals who have found different aspects of life overwhelming.
We specialize in working with people who have experienced difficult life circumstances, highly sensitive people (HSP), and those who feel hopeless & anxious. They are often high achieving but struggle with feeling never good enough or unlovable. They are left feeling empty, shamed, & insignificant at the end of the day. We also help couples who feel that they have drifted apart & help grow intimacy and communication. We view our clients as intelligent, curious, and resourceful individuals.
